The day after Christmas and I have not gotten a lot done on by book due to the holidays. I am still looking for names for both the Vampire and the Angel. Doing research on the internet does not always give me what I'm seeking. Many of the sites who do show things do not tell you what the origin of the information is. So, I will continue to seek a name for both.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate.

Angel & Vampire Progress

odations for at least twelve visitors in luxury. Over-looking the river and designed with a magnificent view, it is a definite contrast to the other home on the property with its traditional southern plantation style. But with deceased grandparents she uses that home for a rental at times and at other times for visitors who wish to stay for a long remote vacation or business trip. Since the property encompasses acreage and was originally a farm,
Here I am again, late night and writing. Perhaps that is why I dream of night related creatures. So, where am I with the book? It is developing.

Tonight I read part of what I'm writing to a friend who is another writer. She thinks I have a great idea and gave me some sage advice. I really appreciate her. Her name is Cheryl Bousquet and she has several poetry books she is selling. She can be found on Facebook. I enjoy her writings and highly recommend them.
In the first part of the book I will be introducing several other characters besides the developing Earth Angel and the Vampire. One of them is a housekeeper who the Earth Angel finds has been a werewolf all along. She has known her since childhood along with her werewolf husband and they live on the Angel's home property. Of course, the vampire isn't even a little happy about that arrangement. In fact, his first encounter with the housekeeper is almost a tragedy for the housekeeper. She also learns that her gardener and grounds keeper is a wood elf. It is hard for her to believe these creatures have been charged with protecting her.

Her home is spectacular. Her father, an architect, designed it and it is truly a fortress of unique design. Modern design with twelve bedrooms, and three stories, with security features that will astound the ordinary person. Included in those features are built in automation for panels to seal it off during a hurricane or other threats to security.

On the property is also the home that her grandparents occupied when they were alive. It definitely is in contrast to her father's house. A traditional style southern home with a covered porch that completely surrounds the first floor, parts of the the home date back to before the Texas became a state. There is a barn and horses for leisure riding on the property. The acreage the whole complex occupies was once a working farm. It isn't used as a production farm by her, but part of it is leased to a neighbor who raises crops and some hay which the neighbor exchanges for the use of property.

The closer she gets to her twenty-fifth birthday, the stranger things around her become. The more she is capable of seeing the supernatural the more she is aware how sheltered she has been and how she has been protected by forces outside of her knowledge. Stick around and meet her family. Most of whom have no magic or knowledge of the supernatural world. It becomes her job to protect them and keep her world separate from theirs. They tend to turn up at the most inappropriate times.

I've been researching angel names and Nordic names. Interesting attributes can be attributed to angels.

As you can see the book is coming along, and I'm formulating a plot that will hopefully entice you to continue to read this blog and read the book when it is completed. Enough of this for tonight and back to the book!

Starting to write my book

I've been contemplating writing a novel for a long time, and I've actually started to write it. How do I start?

My book is based on an ongoing dream. Thanks to Charlaine Harris and her books, I got the idea in my head and haven't been able to let it go. For now the title is "Angel and The Vampire." Building the characters is always the challenge and the decision of how to describe them. How old to make them. What names to give them. The scenes in my head after a night's sleep are always somewhat changeable. Can I describe them so others can visualize them too? I hope so. Deciding where the scene should be and how believable it should be, is another of those things one has to decide.

When I took writing classes years ago, it was always recommended to choose places you are familiar with in order to make a description believable. I've gone through many places in my mind, since I've lived in or visited many. The primary considerations being Houston or Corpus Christi, Texas; Denver, Colorado; a small town in northern Kansas; North Miami, Florida; Seattle, Washington; Missoula, Montana; Farmington, New Mexico; Bloomfield, New Mexico. Or should I rely on memories of my childhood home in Ohio. Looking at past vampire books, most are set in Louisiana.

Vampires have been represented as dead people who have been reanimated to life in the movies. They have been shown as having no reflection, allergic to garlic and sunshine. That is until the Twilight books. In them, vampires are shown as immortal beings who died and arose from death in a form that doesn't require sleep and can exist in the daylight as long as it isn't bright sunlight. From that book series, vampires don't burn to death in sunlight. In all interpretations of vampires to date, they are romantic characters who exist only on blood with a vicious even homicidal streak in order to fulfill their need for blood. I think I will change that idea in my book. Part of the lure of my book will lie in how my vampire character is different from the others and living among us today along with other supernatural characters.

How does an Angel play in the book? Well, that is an interesting twist to the story and actually, she is the main character. She won't even be aware she is one for part of the book, and will find out her true nature and power due to the vampire invading her life. Does this mean this will be the only book? Will this lead to a series of books? Will the book be entirely serious or like Charlaine Harris, have a touch of comedy to it? Or will it be totally romantic while taking advantage of the horrific nature of a vampire? As the book develops, more will be revealed.
